Ernesto Valverde, the former coach of the FC Barcelona, is to be the desired candidate of Atletico Madrid on the succession of Diego Simeone, should this leave Rojiblancos prematurely. This reports the Spanish sports direction Mundo deportivo.
But it should only be a precautionary measure, as Atletico Madrid is currently not intended to dismiss Simeone.
It is possible, however, that Simeone wants to leave the club from his own drive after this season two years before the expiration of his contract. Atletico is currently in the table of the Primera Division on table space five and threatens to miss the qualification for the Champions League 2022/23.
Simeone has been coach of Atletico Madrid since 2011. Among the Argentine, the club became twice of Spanish champions, once a trophy winner and won the UEFA Europa League twice.
Ernesto Valverde has been free since its dismissal at FC Barcelona in 2020. With Barca he brought the championship twice.
