Since US companies are oligopoly in the EDA market, if this regulation comes into effect, China will be difficult to secure high-tech semiconductor design technology.

According to market research firm Trend Force on the 22nd, in 2021, in the global EDA software market, Synopsis (32%), Cadence (30%), and Siemens (13%) are in the order of Synopsis and Cadence. The combined market share of the two companies is 62%. This means that the United States is leading more than half of the global EDA market.


The global EDA market is expected to grow 13.8% annually from $ 8.1 billion in 2020 to $ 13.6 billion in 2024.

When the United States began sanctions in Huawei in 2019, the United States prevented Huawei’s subsidiary Hi-Silicon from receiving EDA from synopsis and Cadence. China is a leader in EDA technology, but technology, sales size and overall influence are still far behind the US EDA industry. China has developed technology in analog circuit design EDA, flat panel display circuit design EDA, but digital circuit design EDA and foundry EDA are still far behind the United States, and the GAA has not yet dealt with research and development. did.

The report said, Even if China purchased a large amount of EDA software approved before the current sanctions are entered into effect, the use of the software must be connected to the developer for license updates, he said. This means that the United States can effectively control China. I added.
